Friday Favorites

Erika and I are so excited that lots of y'all are linking up with us every week.  Make sure that you're grabbing our graphic, linking back to us and sharing your own Friday Favorites post ;)

HAPPY FRIDAY, friends! It's extra happy over here because we have a four-day weekend, it's Easter weekend and we're celebrating a big birthday on Monday.

First up on my list is this cutie doing her Woodrow Wilson presentation.  I think I shared a pic of her at home in the morning but here's one that her teacher shared in front of her opening google slide.  Fifth grade has been the BEST year for her and we're all going to miss her teachers so much!

Reading Recap

 The Women

"When Frances "Frankie McGrath's brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path when she hears that women can be heroes too. Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed and politically divided America."

I don't even know where to start with this book other than IT'S A MUST READ! I've loved Kristin Hannah for years and years (The Nightingale and The Great Alone are two of my all time favorites) and look forward to her new releases like Christmas morning ;).

I was hooked from page one of The Women and found myself captivated from that point on.  Kristin Hannah not only captures the time period she makes you FEEL it.  From Frankie's time in Vietnam to her life when she returned home I FELT so much while reading.  It was heart breaking and inspiring, eye-opening and thought-provoking.

I LOVED IT!!!

What's Up Wednesday

Today I'm linking up with  Shay and  Sheaffer to talk a little bit about what's been going on around here! I missed out on this last week when I pressed pause on the blog to get caught up on some school things but wanted to share anyway ;)

The Mediterranean crunch salad from Costco with these chicken skewers.  SO SO SO GOOD!

Taylor Swift Notebook Craft

I'm having a hard time even calling this a craft BUT it was a super cute activity that G and one of her friends were VERY excited about and I wanted to share in case you needed a little project for the long weekend or an easy Easter basket idea for your tween/teen girls...

Meet Frank

Well, y'all.  We did it.

Mason has been in LOVE with dachshunds for what feels like EVER (i.e. his weenie dog birthday dinner last year) and we decided to take the plunge and get him a little buddy for his 13th birthday.

Meet Frankfurter McAnally - Frank for short ;)

He's a 3-lb dapple mini dachshund who couldn't be cuter if he tried!

Dave and I started tossing around the idea of a new puppy back in the Fall.  I've been reading up on the breed, figuring out what gender would be best to add to our little pack, refreshing on puppy training, etc.  We had been going back on forth on when would be the right time.... Did we wait until summer, go for it during Spring break, etc.

Whew! What a week!  Re-entry is always rough but this week has been surprisingly smooth THANK GOODNESS!

My first FAVE for the week was watching Luke run a team triathalon with his cross country coach.  Coach McKeller did the swim and bike and Luke ran the 5k. They came in second place and Luke had a blast.

Coscto Faves Part 3

I'm back and sharing more of our FAVES From Costco... things that we love and purchase on repeat either because they're a bargain, EXTRA tasty or both ;)

If you missed it you can find Part One HERE and Part Two HERE.

First up is this fully cooked bacon.  I was a total skeptic at first but Sharon convinced me to try it while we were in Big Bend and it's DELISH!  When we were camping we ate it cold straight out of the package (#campinglife) but at home we put a couple of pieces on a paper towel, microwave for 30 seconds or so to heat it through and ENJOY! You can easily heat it in a pan and then cook your eggs in the grease if that's more your speed but it really is delicious and you get 4 dozen pieces in the package which I feel like makes it a bargain too.

Teen/Tween Easter Basket Ideas

My plan was to share an Easter basket gift guide for allll the ages BUT I started pulling ideas for teens/tweens and came up with a bunch so I'll share those today and younger kiddos this weekend ;)

First up - a new bathing suit is a go-to for me since they get excited about them and the prospect of warmer weather and it's something that I'd typically end up buying them anyway.

This one is SO CUTE and I love the sportier style/fit.

Meow Wolf

Back in 2018 we were driving back from Colorado and decided to make a pit stop in Santa Fe and we landed at "Meow Wolf" and were completely blown away.  It's an immersive art exhibit that you walk through - different rooms, worlds, etc. and I literally think you could be in there for a month and still not really SEE everything.

We heard that they opened one in Dallas (Grapevine to be exact) and so Mason, Griffin and I headed there during Spring Break to check it out.  Luke opted out as it's not really "his thing" ;) hahaha

This is the entrance which was SO COOL...

Day In The Life - Spring Break Edition

I woke up last Tuesday and decided to chronicle a "day in the life: Spring Break Edition" ;). I was up around 7:30 which is way earlier than I typically like BUT I woke up as Dave was getting ready to go to work and decided just to roll with it and be productive ;)

I showered, used my new FAVORITE moisturizer...

Y'all.  Spring Break is my FAVORITE.  I love having no plans, the shower pace and the time together.

My crew of FAVORITES went to see Kung Fu Panda 4 and had nothing but rave reviews ;)

Big Bend 2024

Last week I headed out to Big Bend with twenty students and a handful of teachers/chaperones to Big Bend National Park for a STEM camping trip.

This was our third year we've taken kids on this trip and was the best year yet.  The weather was AWESOME which makes all the difference and I feel like every year we just get smarter and more efficient about the way we do things.
